Minecraft Lays Out Its Mobile Plans

Minecraft Lays Out Its Mobile Plans

None

Minecraft – Pocket Edition is exactly what it sounds like: Minecraft for your iPhone or Android. It’s all the addictive fun you get from Minecraft, only you can take it on the road.

The game released for Android first, and ever since then the team has been working on making sure the iOS version was up to snuff. They are now getting ready to put a lot of more development time into both versions, so you can expect updates soon.

The portable version of Minecraft won’t ever synch up with the PC version. The touch platform just isn’t compatible with all the functionality that the full version has. However, the team is working to implement more of the Survival elements from the full PC version. Here’s a list of the features that Mojang says are being worked on:

  • A new file system – to make sure we can support items and mobs in the world

  • Item system – to be able to pick up items

  • Crafting – we know you want this 🙂 This will probably need some iterations since the interface will be customized for the touch devices

  • Inventory system

  • Mobs – animals and enemies!

  • Optimizing rendering code – we are experimenting with caves but need to make it work better before we are able to release it

  • Clean up of code and overall optimization

No release dates have been revealed for the upcoming patches, but the Minecraft team asks you to keep your phones updated to the latest firmware version to ensure maximum compatibility.
