Mortal Kombat Introduces Skarlet

None

Back when Kitana, Mileena, and Jade first burst on to the Mortal Kombat scene, fans made up a rumor about an additional female ninja—one who was clad in red and called Skarlet. Long story short: she wasn’t real. But now, Netherrealm Studios is fixing all that by making her a downloadable character in the most recent Mortal Kombat release. They unveiled the first trailer showcasing her combat abilities, and announced that she would be playable at this year’s E3. Of course, the only things Netherrealm had to go on were old rumors and stories when building her move list, so she is essentially a brand new character.

Skarlet uses some sort of blood magic in her combat style. The first thing you’ll notice is that she’s fast. Her combos strike very quickly, and she even has the ability to loop two of her basic combos together due to a launching hit at the end. Her specials are also pretty quick. She has what looks like a teleporting command throw that comes out extremely quick. She can throw daggers, which appear to be some of the fastest moving projectiles in the game. They also juggle the opponent on hit, making them useful combo tools. Skarlet can also throw three of these daggers in a fan formation in the air. Add to these a powerful uppercut string, an arcing blood projectile, and some pretty gruesome fatalities and x-ray attacks, and you have one heck of a character. MK needed more rushdown, and Skarlet is certainly rushdown.
