Square Enix’s latest fantasy / sci-fi epic, Star Ocean:Integrity and Faithlessness, is right around the corner. The name doesn’t exactly roll off one’s tongue, but we’ve been years starving for another Star Ocean game. This will be the first entry in the series on current-gen hardware, and it looks absolutely stunning. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, I described it to a friend as Final Fantasy meets Cowboy Bebop , which is actually a terrible way to describe this game. What I was trying to convey is that you get the best of both worlds here: it’s traditional fantasy RPG fare combined with space ships and alien worlds.
In Integrity and Faithlessness you’ll control a party led by the sword-wielding Fidel as they attempt to protect and escort the mysterious Relia. Your party will grow to 7 members, and you’ll be able to pull off some special combos during combat to inflict devastating damage on foes. Square Enix announced today that we’ll be playing the game in North America on June 28, and the day-one edition will come with some codes that unlock special DLC items to aid you in your journey. You’ll also get access to to some background battle music themes that you can play during combat. Of course if you want to splurge on the collector’s edition for $110, you’ll get everything pictured above, which includes a hardbound, 80-page art book featuring art from the Star Ocean series. I’ll be picking this one up day-one for sure; it’s going to scratch my JRPG itch until Final Fantasy XV comes out this September.
