The recent give or take success of the 3DS has been much debated as of late, but apparently it has only shown one path for the recently announced NGP. When announced, Sony stated they planned to release the brand new shiny handheld this year, to much speculation. This speculation only rose as representatives of Sony then started to back track and say “It will release in one region this fiscal year.” It has become a guessing game no longer, as the 3DS success has pushed Sony to fast track the production of the NGP to worldwide this summer.  A release date is still sketchy, but the recent company leak suggests we could see the new handheld on shelves the week of E3. Which would make sense if true, since the last two years the shock and awe factor went to their competitors, first with Microsoft revealing the “slim” Xbox 360 and its availability the week of E3, and then of course last year with the unveiling of the 3DS. Apparently, Sony figureheads have said enough is enough and are guaranteeing this year belongs to them. We will have more as we get closer to this year’s E3. |
