Nintendo and Google Investing over $20 Million in Niantic

Nintendo and Google Investing over $20 Million in Niantic

Niantic is a company that you may not have heard of, but they’re doing big things. Niantic grew out of Google and developed the mobile AR game Ingress which has players go out into the real world to find and control ‘portals’ for their factions. Some events have brought thousands of players together at once, and the game has enjoyed success in multiple countries around the world.

Niantic is now developing Pokemon Go , and with Google’s GPS mapping and funding behind them, they have the resources to make something pretty incredible. In fact, Nintendo was eager to offer its help as well. Niantic has reported that between Google, Nintendo, and the Pokemon Company, it’s received $20 million in funding with an incentive of another $10 million if certain development milestones are met.

If you haven’t seen the Pokemon Go trailer yet (it’s freaking epic), check it out below and let us know what you think. Is this going to push the limits of AR games and mobile gaming in general?
