Nintendo Will Eventually Discontinue Some Amiibos

Don’t wait too long to pick up your Amiibo of choice. Nintendo has recently announced that not all Amiibos will be produced in the same quantities. Lesser known Amiibos will end their production runs before popular fan favorite characters. That means that you likely will be able to pick up a Mario Amiibo as long as there is a Wii U, but your Marth Amiibo might become a rarity sooner rather than later. The same is likely true for characters such as Animal Crossing Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and any other obscure character.

“We will aim for certain Amiibo to always be available,” Nintendo said to Gamespot. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”

This is just asking for Amiibos to end up blowing up in price in secondary markets. Flawed production run Amiibos are already selling for thousands of dollars, so if Nintendo stops producing a line of Amiibo, be prepared to shell out some serious bucks for it on eBay.
