Nintendo's Iwata Details "Wii no Ma" Video Service; Confirms DSi Transfer

None

Today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained the ins and outs of the Wii’s upcoming video service entitled, Wii no Ma, via a 25 minute video on Wii.com (the official Japanese Wii web site).

The video service will allow Wii owners in Japan to access videos via a virtual “tea room.” Video content will range from nature programming to manga and anime. Videos will be rated much like they are via YouTube, and friends and family can share their favorite videos between consoles.

This also holds true for the DSi. Apparently, videos can also be transferred and stored onto the DSi’s SDHC card for viewing on the go.

It appears that the service will be completely free to Wii owners, though it will be subsidized through advertising. In fact, advertising will be an integral part of the service. For example, consumers will be able to walk their Miis up to a virtual kiosk and transfer money-saving coupons to their DSi. Moreover, consumers will also be able to rate kiosk presentation and advertising content to give advertisers instant feedback from their target market.

We will bring you a lot more on the video service as more info is delivered to us by Nintendo. As of right now there is no timeframe for release in North America. However, Japan will be receiving the goods tomorrow, Friday, May 1, 2009. Moreover, Iwata hinted at the simultaneous worldwide release of certain videos (i.e. important anime) in the future. That means it is only a matter of time for team Nintendo to get things localized for all regions.
