Old School Runescape’s Death Mechanics Have Changed Due to DDoS Attacks

As detailed on the official Old School Runescape website on Wednesday, August 20, due to the recent DDoS attacks on gaming servers, of which Xbox LIVE, Battle.net and the PlayStation Network were affected , the team behind Old School Runescape has announced that it’ll be temprorarily rework the game’s death mechanics.

Due to the recent intermittent attacks causing network issues we have slightly, and temporarily, reworked what happens with your items when you die, ” the Old School Runescape team wrote in its announcement. “ If you are not in PvP combat when you die you will now have 30 minutes to return to your items. For the first minute of this timer your items will only be visible to you and for the remaining 29 minutes your items will be visible to everyone.

The team continued on to stress that this rework is only temporary so as to prevent the loss of times due to network issues as a result of DDoS attacks. The team also went on to say that PvP combat will not receive the same treatment.

This is a temporary change to help prevent people losing their items due to the recent network issues that we have been experiencing. Once these issues are resolved the death mechanics will be reverted to their usual state, ” the team added. “ Please note that the death mechanic has not been for changed when a player dies in PvP combat.

Even with the changes to non-PvP combat, it’s still urged that you don’t engage in any dangerous or high-risk scenarios.

Even with this change we would strongly suggest that you do not partake in dangerous/high-risk content such as PvP or high level PvM and as always, don’t risk anything you’re not prepared to lose whilst these network issues are ongoing.

We’ll bring you more news on games affected by the recent DDoS attacks should further information reach our ears.
