With the Amazing Spider-Man 2 ready to hit theaters this May, we now hear the latest from one of the men entrusted with bringing both the new Venom spin-off and Sinister Six film to the big screen as well.
In a recent interview, Roberto Orci was asked if the villains that make up the Sinister Six would be evil in the traditional sense, or would they go a different route. Orci says “That’s the discussion we’re having right now; how exactly do you do that…there are some antiheroes in this day and age…They’ve seen all the good guys who never do anything wrong. Is there a story in seeing the other side? That’s the challenge, and that’s the fun. I’m not sure how we’re going to do that yet.”
Also, the character Venom will be getting a similar treatment and is no stranger to Spider-Man fans. While not referring to the black symbiote suit in the first film directly, the Amazing Spider-Man did lay some of the foundation for the character. “I think they’re ready to have things shaken up. I think we’ve all seen everything…They can see it all coming. So we have to shake it up. You can’t just keep telling the same stories every day.” Orci said about Venom’s new direction.
No firm release date yet, but Orci did confirm that he believes the Spidey 4 title set for 2018 is in-fact a Spider-Man film and not a placeholder for either of these movies.
