Papers, Please Creator Reveals Return of the Obra Dinn

Lucas Pope’s Papers, Please garnered critical acclaim in 2013. It turns out he’s already working on his next project, Return of the Obra Dinn .

For his new project, Pope uses a graphical style that pays homage to old Mac Games. Return of the Obra Dinn, a 3D mystery game about a ship, The Obra Dinn, that failed to reach its rendeveauz point. Six months later, the Obra Dinn mysteriously appeared, albeit without its crew. Players take on the role of an insurance adjuster for the East India Company’s London Office, who must find a way onto the ship and recover the Captain’s log.

Pope explains that we can expect a different experience compared to Papers, Please . “There’ll be less creativity with the gameplay and instead I want to experiment with the rendering, story, and a few technical features,” he said. ” There’s a slightly cool gameplay hook but I won’t go into details on that until much later.”

According to Pope, he should take approximately half a year to complete Return of the Obra Dinn . In the meantime, we can only speculate what this “hook” could be.
