Peter Molyneux Comments On the Prize for Curiosity: What’s in the Cube

Peter Moleyneux’s latest project is more of a study on human behavior than a game. It’s called Curiosity: What’s in the Cube? It’s a mobile app which puts you in front of a cube and asks you to tap on it in order to chip away at it. There is a prize at the center, but only the very last person to tap the cube will get it, and everyone in the world is tapping the exact same cube. You will be able to pay real money to get special chisels that allow you to tap more efficiently.

There are surprises that people will find along the way, however. The cube is actually made out of layers and each layer uncover new and interesting twists. Some layers might have pictures of the highest tappers. Others may have new rules or mini-games. Some layers may tell you to stop tapping all together. It’s a weird conundrum of a puzzle, that’s for sure.

Moleyneux has decided to comment on the prize for this game recently at the Eurogamer Expo. He said that the prize won’t be money, a sports car, a dead cat, or Half-Life 3. In more elegant terms, it looks it won’t be anything directly physical. However, he did say it would “change your life forever.” Maybe there’s a job opening at the center of the cube? Or maybe Molyneux is just hyping up one of his projects again.

The app is currently in submission to Apple and if everything goes well it should launch in the next ten days. This is just the first of twenty-two experiments that Molyneux’s studio will be working on. The next one will be titled “Cooperation.” Molyneux says that the data from these social experiments will then be used to make his next big blockbuster title.
