In the days of the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, Phantasy Star Online and its sequel were some of the best-loved multiplayer RPGs online. They were some of the first games to ever bring console players online. Unfortunately, this also meant that they weren’t the most secure games out there. Cheaters could use a GameShark or other game-altering device to make their character ludicrously powerful, and since character data was stored on a memory card, there wasn’t a whole lot that could be done about it. Luckily, the Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 won’t have those same problems. Producer Satoshi Sakai assured fans that new security measures are being taken to make PSO2 Vita extremely secure. Character data will now be stored server-side, preventing cheating from occurring. If someone happens to find a way to circumvent this, the game will be able to be patched in order to remove the security loophole. In fact, Sakai also plans to add new stages and enemies through patches, something that couldn’t be done in the PS2 version of the game due to the consoles lack of internal storage.
The game will be playable on both Wi-Fi and 3G connections, so now you can take your Phantasy Star Online anywhere. By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
