For its time, PlanetSide was incredibly revolutionary. There was nothing so humbling as the day I realized that no amount of fighting on my part could ever make a difference in the planet-wide war that was actually going on. But I still felt like a hero, and that’s all that mattered. Unfortunately, as a kid, one of the things that always kept me away from PlanetSide was the cost. I was poor and my parents didn’t understand how important this game was. But future fans of the PlanetSide franchise won’t have to worry about cost. John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment, recently confirmed that PlanetSide 2 would be free to play. 
PlanetSide 2 was originally intended to be a simple expansion to the beloved game, but as production continued, developers began to realize that they had a full-fledged sequel on their hands. However, fans might not see the sequel for a while: “I did in fact say we are aiming for late this year or early next year. No further comment about that” Smedley said about the release date, adding that the game would be released “when it’s ready and we are proud of it.” By Josh Engen |
