Prototype Developer Sees Considerable Layoffs

Prototype Developer Sees Considerable Layoffs

None

Activision has announced Prototype developer Radical Entertainment will be affected with a considerable amount of layoffs.

The studio will now no longer develop its own titles, but instead provide support existing IPs within Activision.

“Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience,” said the publisher in a statement. “Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff.”

“As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward.”

Radical had said it envisioned Prototype 2 selling upwards of four million units, but the game must have achieved a minor fraction of that for the studio to get closed down.

Cheat Code Central wishes the best of luck to all those affected by the lay-offs.
