Activision Wants To Give Away $250,000

None

Last year, Activision put together a little Independent Games Competition and ended up giving away $250,000 in cash to a couple of upstart indie developers. Well, it looks like the competition was a big success in Activision’s mind, because today they announced that they are accepting submissions for yet another independent developer’s bout.

The rules are fairly straightforward and echo last year’s competition: the developer who takes first place will rake in $175,000 to complete their project, and the runner up will get $75,000. Also, Activision reserves the right to publish the winning games, although the game will remain the property of its current developer.

“This competition underscores Activision’s commitment to fostering creativity in the independent development community,” Said Dave Stohl, executive VP of studios at Activision. “Many of us began our careers as indies, so we are very proud to offer this kind of support and encouragement to a couple of the industry’s young visionaries.”

Last year’s winner was a little shooter/RTS hybrid called Dstroyd! There’s still no word on when Dstroyd! will actually hit the market, but according to their latest blog, they’re still deep in the development process.

Developers have until December 31st to submit their entries. So, stop listening to your parents complain about your lack of ambition and go win $175,000.
