PS3 Getting Disc-Free Netflix This Fall

PS3 Getting Disc-Free Netflix This Fall

None

When I want to watch Netflix on my game console, the last thing I want is to have to find a disc and swap it with whatever I’m currently playing. It’s not a deal breaker, just an unnecessary step considering the Xbox 360 and PC allow you to use the service without it. Luckily, it seems as though Netflix on the PS3 will also no longer require a disc soon.

According to Shacknews, MediaMemo spotted an interesting statement made by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings confirming the PS3’s soon to be improved service. Hastings stated “Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn’t require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements.” While we’ve known that this change was incoming based on prior statements from the company, it is nice to know it is coming so soon. Also, still no word on when (or if) the Wii will be getting the same disc-free treatment.
