CES 2012: Netflix Coming To Vita. Soon.

None

Listen. Netflix is great and everything, but what am I supposed to do when I want to stream Teen Wolf and I’m not within reach of my PC, Mac, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 Apple TV, Roku, Google TV, cell phone, or tablet? Luckily, Sony has revealed that the streaming video service will making its way to the upcoming PlayStation Vita very soon.

The announcement was made yesterday during Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show. And, although the conference was light on details, Kaz Hirai did mention that Netflix was hoping to have the service ready when the Vita launches in North America on February 22.

Just to be clear, Netflix isn’t “planning” to have their app ready for the Vita’s launch, they’re “working to have it ready.” Forgive me for being skeptical, but this doesn’t exactly sound locked in.

Though, if Netflix does actually get the software ready in time, it would be an excellent excuse to pick up a Vita. That is, unless you already own a Netflix-ready device, and if you’re reading this on a computer, you do.

But if streaming video isn’t your thing, Hirai also revealed that Sony would be including Music Unlimited, the cloud-based music service that Sony launched in December of 2010, on launch day. And if neither Netflix nor Music Unlimited interests you, you can spend your time editing photos and video in the PlayMemories Studio application.

There. The Vita includes something to keep everyone entertained. No more complaining.
