It’s Baaaaaack!!

It’s Baaaaaack!!

None

PlayStation 3 owners have been without the PS3’s PSN and Qriocity services since the data-center was attacked on April 20th. That’s close to a month of no online gaming or movie/game rentals for millions of gamers and, until now, there’s been no light at the end of this long dark tunnel. We still don’t have a set date for when Sony will be bringing online functionality back to the PS3 for other countries, but North America has officially come back online with the rest of the world on the way.

Sony has vamped up its security quite a bit in preparation for bringing their online gaming services back. With a mandatory firmware update (version 3.61), PS3 owners will finally be able to use their console to reset their passwords, a mandatory requirement, though I’m sure many of you are more than willing to by now, as a part of the update.

Now gamers in the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico can get back to playing online and using other party services like Hulu, Netflix, and PlayStation Home. In a statement regarding this long awaited return Sony’s Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai wanted to thank patient PS3 owners, ” for your patience and support during this time. We know even the most loyal customers have been frustrated by this process and are anxious to use their Sony products and services again.

As a reward for your patience, Sony is offering a free month subscription to the PSN Plus and Qriocity services. If you were already a subscriber, an extra month will be tacked on to your current subscription. Add a brand spanking new rebuilt network infrastructure with enhanced security, and I’m sure many of you are foaming at the mouth to jump back online.
