Sony Brings OnLive To The PS3* (April Fools)

None

The recent update gave Sony PlayStation Plus subscribers the new opportunity to use a cloud based saving system to save their games. While this feature is great, many Sony fans wondered exactly why a cloud based system was being utilized instead of a return to the “memory card” system. Well, wonder no longer. The still infant OnLive service has been purchased by Sony, and they plan to bring this to the PS3 in two separate packages. A subscription-based service that give you access to the service like normal for non-PlayStation Plus subscribers and then for those that are, they will receive the standard package as well as a free game a month.

The new OnLive service will allow access to Sony’s enormous PSOne and PS2 library from day one, and the service will eventually add the PS3 library as well. Users will be able to “rent” the games for as long as they want and if they reach a point of wanting to buy the game, and they are PlayStation Plus subscriber, they will be able to. No official word on pricing, or if the purchasing of the game and the free game will only be available for as long as you are a PS Plus member, but I am sure that in the coming months we will find out more.
