PS4 Gets a Huge System Update Tomorrow

PS4 Gets a Huge System Update Tomorrow

Sony and Microsoft are both revamping the interface and experience on their consoles with big updates for the holidays, but Sony will be rolling its update out first. Tomorrow, Sept. 30, you can download system update 3.0, codename: Kenshin, and enjoy a slew of new features and performance tweaks. There were a lot of fans holding their breath for some kind of backwards compatibility announcement, but those of you who are dying to play your older discs will have to keep your PS3 plugged in.

There are some great new features to get excited about, though. Streaming is easier than ever: you can now upload short clips to your Twitter feed on the fly, and real-time streaming to YouTube is now live. Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the Communities section. No doubt inspired by Nintendo’s Miiverse, players will now be able to create communities around their favorite games and genres where they can chat on discussion boards, dump their screenshots, and form parties. This is going to make finding a fireteam for your Destiny raids much simpler.

Expect future enhancements after Microsoft rolls out its game-changing update in November.
