Rage Is Massive

Rage Is Massive

None

At this point, we aren’t really surprised by huge game installations on the PS3. In fact, if you purchase any triple-A title, you’re probably prepared to sit through a long install process before you ever press a button. However, the upcoming Rage from id Software is looking to set a new record for PS3 game installs: 8 GB.

But if you go the PC route, the game will take up 25 GB. For the PS3 version, much of that data is kept on the Blu-ray disc that the game comes on. However, keeping many of the files on the PS3 hard drives allowed the developers to not skimp when it came to the game’s richly detailed textures.

But the Xbox can’t read Blu-ray discs, so what will it do to compensate? Well, it’s taking cues from the PSOne and including the game on three discs. If you want, you can install the entire game onto the Xbox 360 hard drive, which would take up 22GB altogether. Installation isn’t mandatory, but it certainly helps out with load times. And if you don’t have a whole lot of space on your 360, you can choose to install each disc individually. For example, you could install disc 1, play through it, then uninstall disco 1 and install disc 2. You also don’t have to install multiplayer, if that’s not your cup of tea.
