Ragnarok Online 2 Open Beta Sees Limited Release

Ragnarok Online 2 Open Beta Sees Limited Release

AsiaSoft, the publisher behind Ragnarok Online 2, is launching the game’s open beta tomorrow. However, the title is being released a surprisingly limited list of countries. Unless you are reading this from Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, or Malaysia, you will simply have to wait a little longer.

The original Ragnarok Online was an incredibly popular MMO developed in South Korea by GRAVITY. It had anime-inspired sprite graphics (appropriate, since it was based on a Korean manwha comic) and a massive level-grind, with an absurd number of classes. The sequel, for which this is the second attempt, now uses the Gamebryo engine (Fallout 3/NV, Divinity II), but is still being developed by GRAVITY.

It makes sense for Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia to get into the initial open beta, as AsiaSoft is based in Thailand. But, the beta won’t be immediately available in its developer’s home country of South Korea, which seems a bit strange.
