Resistance’s Burning Multiplayer Woes

Resistance’s Burning Multiplayer Woes

None

Imagine my surprise yesterday when, in an attempt to play Resistance: Burning Skies online post-release, I was met with repeated failure. The closest I ever came to getting into a multiplayer matchup was when I was plopped down in an already occupied room, which quickly emptied, or found myself solo in a room that had proceeded on to voting on maps. Most of the time, though, I was booted out with either a “connection to room timed out” error or a “connection could not be established” prompt.

And then, today, Nihilistic acknowledged the issue on their Twitter, confirming that this particular problem had not shown up in testing, but that they were hard at work on a fix. They now assert that they have spotted the issue and sent an update in for SonyQA to approve. They specifically state, “Network problem was caused by firmware issue that was rare on test servers but is widespread on retail. Should have been caught.”

As of this writing, no update has yet been pushed to the Vita client, and I still haven’t been able to get into an online game, running into the same issue as before. But that will hopefully change soon. Either way, keep an eye out for our review of the Vita’s first dual-stick first-person shooter.

UPDATE: An update on the Nihilistic Twitter tells that Sony is fast-tracking the publishing process for the Resistance: Burning Skies multiplayer patch. They have further promised that Sony will post an official update on the patch’s status at myresistance.net, so players can be in the know and get back into the game as soon as possible.
