PS3s Burning Users After Firmware Update

PS3s Burning Users After Firmware Update

None

Playstation 3 users must be incredibly unlucky. First, there was this whole identity theft crisis, then came the extensive PSN downtime. Now, just when PSN is finally coming back online, PS3’s everywhere are overheating.

Rockstar Customer Service has been getting complaints from all over the U.S. and Europe that L.A. Noire is causing problems for PS3s. It causes PS3s to “Red Light,” resulting in game freezes and forcing the system to shut down after periods of play ranging from 30 minutes to two hours. Repeated testing has shown that multiple games (not just L.A. Noire) have been affected by this new firmware update, though there hasn’t yet been a pattern that links all the bugged games together. The problem mostly affects older 60GB and 80GB models.

A statement was released on Rockstar’s website detailing the glitch and the steps Rockstar and Sony are taking to fix it. The statement reads “At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.”
