The Sims 4 is the current iteration of its franchise, released initially in 2014 for PC and in 2017 for consoles. Like the other games in the franchise, Sims 4 focuses on creating and controlling virtual people called Sims. The game received mixed reviews and is currently sitting at a 70 on Metacritic. The Sims 4: Island Living expansion pack is the seventh one released by Maxis. Unsure whether it’s worth your time? This article will cover the unique features and cheats available for the expansion.
Sims 4: Island Living Premise
This expansion pack allows you to create sims to live in the tropical islands of Sulani. Sims can now enjoy many tropical-themed activities. You can explore the ocean, meet mermaids, and even befriend dolphins. The content doesn’t stop there, new jobs were also introduced such as lifeguard, diver, and fisherman.
The Sims 4: Island Living Main Characters
The series doesn’t have main and side characters in the same way other games would. The Sims instead have recurring families for player-made sims to interact with. It’s debatable whether or not I would refer to them as main characters but they are there for those interested in Sim lore. You can find a definitive list here.

Unique Features
The Sims 4: Island Living expansion’s biggest feature is the new neighborhood of Sulani. Sulani is divided into three islands.
- Ohan’ali Town – This island holds most of the lots and is easily the most inhabited island on Sulani. This island also hosts two free lots, Lagoon Look and Tangled Flat.
- Lani St. Taz – The tropical paradise of the three islands. It is full of beautiful beaches filled with white sand.
- Mua Pel’am – This is situated near the active volcano of Sulani. No sims live on this island however there are pre-built lots for you to move your sims into. There is also a free 40 x 30 lot.
Mermaids were also added in this expansion. Mermaids are very similar to normal Sims, but instead of needing Hygiene, they need to stay hydrated. This need is regulated by going swimming, showering, bathing, or drinking water. Mermaids can also influence the moods and actions of other Sims with Siren songs. The Siren Song mechanic usually depletes Hydration so use it sparingly. Another mechanic of Mermaids is their ability to summon Azure dolphins anywhere.
