The Sims 4: Get Famous is the sixth expansion pack to The Sims 4, the fourth entry in EA’s long-running life sim series. Releasing in 2018 for the PC and Mac versions of The Sims 4, Get Famous would later come to the console versions of the title in early 2019. It would be followed by several other expansions to The Sims 4, with the most recent being the Horse Ranch expansion that arrived in July 2023.
Reception to the expansion is mixed among fans and critics alike. Some enjoy the unique content of the expansion such as becoming a film star and getting involved in film editing. Conversely, others criticize the expansion for being more of the same type of content included in the Get to Work, Parenthood, and City Living expansions. Notably, many players report that bugs present at launch persist well into the expansion’s existence and are still problematic for players.
While The Sims 4 has moved to a free-to-play model to expand access to the base game, all of the DLC and expansions are paid purchases. Get Famous is a paid DLC expansion to the game but can be regularly purchased on sale via Steam or console marketplaces. With more than 10 paid DLC expansions available for the game, Get Famous is geared toward players who wish to make their Sims rich and recognizable celebrities.
The Sims 4: Get Famous Premise
The Sims is a series built around creating virtual inhabitants (the titular Sims) and helping them live out their day-to-day lives. The point of the Get Famous expansion is to have your Sims become famous movie stars, hob knob with celebrities, and live lavishly and luxuriously in the city of Del Sol Valley. There are two main components of the expansion that help to facilitate the main gameplay goals — the Acting Career and Fame & Reputation.
Get Famous unlocks Sims’ acting career, allowing them to pursue a career as film stars. This career is the main way for Sims to attain enough Fame and Reputation to actually get famous as the expansion’s title suggests. Players begin their careers by joining one of the available Agencies and starting to take auditions. Once Sims attend enough auditions to reach level 3 Fame, they will start to land acting roles.
Fame and Reputation then both play into how a Sim’s life plays out as an actor and work to make them more famous and recognizable. As Sims continues to act in their careers as actors they will gain more Fame. This Fame then gives way to Fame-based perks that grant them bonuses such as befriending celebrities and boosting their careers. Additionally, Reputation affects how other Sims in the world react to the player’s Sim once they’re famous. If the Sim has a good Reputation, other Sims will stop and cheer, while the opposite is true for Sims with a bad Reputation.
The Sims 4: Get Famous Main Characters
Get Famous adds several new Townies unique to the expansion who are themselves celebrities in Del Sol Valley. The player character can choose to befriend these Townies as their celebrity connections, which will increase Fame and Reputation as a result.
