Rextro Sixtyfourus Guards Yooka-Laylee’s Arcade Machines

Playtonic, the developer behind Yooka-Laylee , is made up of folks who used to work for Rare. When it comes to platformers and iconic, goofy characters, the company knows what it’s doing. Perhaps that’s why it has decided to pay tribute to those good old days with a character that looks like he came from them. Meet Rextro Sixtyfourus, who was designed by Mark Stevenson, creator of characters for Kameo and Donkey Kong 64 .

See what they did there? Rextro Sixtyfourus looks like the characters Rare made for N64 games, so this dinosaur is a Sixtyfourus. He’s made up of polygons, loves retro video games, and the lines on his body are reminiscent of ones created by CRT TVs. In fact, Yooka Laylee players will find him guarding arcade games in each world, asking them to complete challenges.

You’ll hopefully be able to meet him in October 2016. That’s when the game is scheduled to come to the PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox One, and PC.
