RPGs, Now with Product Placement

RPGs, Now with Product Placement

Final Fantasy XV has taken a bold new step for gaming with the addition of, ugh, product placement. Yep, just in case you haven’t seen enough random bottles of Pepsi and oddly specific car models in your movies and TV shows, video games are now becoming prime real estate for selling you more stuff.

For Final Fantasy XV , we are going to be sold a whole lot of Coleman camping products. The story of Final Fantasy XV surrounds a cross country roadtrip, and at many points our protagonists will have to camp out in the great outdoors with the Chocobos. When they do, you will be sure to see Coleman chairs, Coleman lamps, Coleman tents, Coleman tables, Coleman coolers, Coleman tableware, and many pieces of Coleman tableware. Square-Enix says that this is perfect for them, as it helps reinforce the feeling of a “fantasy based on reality.”

How do you feel about this? Is it fine to see product placement in video games? Or is this something that will eventually destroy the integrity of our games?  Let us know in the comments.
