RUMOR: OnLive Coming To Xbox 360 And PS3?

None

The biggest problem with cloud gaming service OnLive is that no one has the OnLive Console. More specifically, no one wants to buy the OnLive console when they have a perfectly good PS3 or Xbox 360 sitting right there underneath their TV. Well, the obvious solution to this problem is to bring the OnLive service to consoles that already exist, and it looks like that might be happening in the not too distant future.

CVG asked OnLive engineering VP Joe Bentley whether or not we would see OnLive make the jump to currently existing consoles. His answer: “Absolutely, they would make great consoles. Our controller is a hybrid between a PS3 controller and an Xbox controller. It’s all compatible; it would just work. There are OnLive guys chatting [with Sony and MS], but we’ll see where it goes. But it would absolutely work; we’re ready to work with everybody.”

He then went on to explain how useful the service could be, especially when factoring in things like cross-console support. “What people are realizing and waking up to is everything could be a console; why shouldn’t you be able to take your game everywhere? I think the timing of this is perfect. When I joined the company, I didn’t think it was going to pan out this way.”

Now this obviously isn’t a guarantee that we will see OnLive make the console jump, but it does give us something to hope for in the future. So let’s just wait and see where cloud gaming will take us.
