RUMOR: PS4 Will Support 4K Resolution?

RUMOR: PS4 Will Support 4K Resolution?

According to a report on Yahoo, Sony may be pushing to make 4K resolution a new industry standard. What is 4K resolution? It’s a resolution that is literally four times sharper than 1080p. It’s considered UHD or Ultra High Definition.

Sony apparently has a plan to introduce a brand new 80-inch XBR LED TV that runs at this bizarrely sharp resolution. Sony already sells Blu-Ray players that support 4k, and now it is looking like their next generation console, supposedly named the PlayStation 4, will support 4K resolution as well. This would allow it to play 4K encoded Blu-Rays and, of course, would allow games to display at 4K resolution. Unfortunately, many games still haven’t gotten the hang of displaying at 1080p yet.

One has to ask, though, is this really necessary? How much better are our graphics going to get? With the advent of HDTVs, it appears as if we were finally going to stop trying to out-shiney the competition and start focusing on gameplay. But with 4K resolution and other resolutions climbing even higher, it seems the graphics race probably won’t stop until the virtual world looks more real than the actual world.
