Radical Entertainment’s Scarface: The World Is Yours is the video game sequel to Brian De Palma’s landmark 1983 film Scarface. Rather than attempt to retell the events of the movie in the form of a video game, the developers at Radical imagined an ending to the movie where main character Tony Montana survives and seeks to reclaim his lost criminal empire. As a result, Scarface: The World Is Yours is somewhat of an unofficial sequel to the movie upon which it’s based.
Many consider The World Is Yours a hidden gem in the long list of open-world Grand Theft Auto clones released in the early 2000s. This 2006 release received considerable praise for its gameplay and its adherence to the source material of the 1983 film. Additionally, the title retains the sense of humor and uses voice acting and actor likenesses from the original film. Many critics compared the game favorably to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and it would sell 2 million units across all platforms. A Wii version was released a year later with improved visuals and presentation. A version of the game for Xbox 360 was briefly in development.
The game features Steven Bauer and Robert Loggia, both of whom are in Scarface, as voice actors and Al Pacino lends his likeness to the game as Tony Montana. Even though Pacino does not voice Tony Montana, he personally selected André Sogliuzzo to voice Tony. Notably, the script for the game was co-written by David McKenna, who wrote the screenplays for American History X and Blow.
Scarface: The World Is Yours Premise
Scarface: The World Is Yours is a third-person open-world action-adventure game. Players assume the role of Miami criminal kingpin Tony Montana and attempt to reclaim his lost empire. The basic gameplay is very similar to Grand Theft Auto but there are some subtle systems that give the title its own unique spin. Just like in Grand Theft Auto, players can traverse the map on foot or in a variety of vehicles including cars and boats. Players complete a variety of missions and interact with NPCs in the game’s fictionalized version of Miami.
Scarface uses a lock-on system very similar to other third-person action-adventure games but Tony can also free-aim to combat targets. Interestingly, Tony cannot harm innocent and non-aggressive NPCs. This is a distinct departure from Grand Theft Auto and its clones. Hitting opponents using the manual aim builds up a special meter that allows Tony to unleash special attacks, incentivizing players to not rely solely on the lock-on mechanic.
Players must reclaim the lost criminal empire of Tony Montana in this alternate-version sequel to the 1983 film. As a result, there are 4 locations that Tony must regain control of to reclaim his empire. These regions are Little Havana, Downtown, South Beach, and North Beach. The game begins with the entire map available but players cannot advance the game or complete missions in other areas until reclaiming the starting area of Little Havana. Completing missions and illegal activities results in Tony earning Reputation and Heat, with Reputation helping the character advance and Heat resulting in unwanted police attention.
Scarface: The World Is Yours Main Characters
Scarface: The World Is Yours features several characters from the 1983 film that is its source material as well as introduces new characters. While some of the characters are allies in Tony’s reclamation of his empire, others work against him. The main characters in Scarface: The World Is Yours include:
- Tony Montana: Tony Montana is a Cuban immigrant who builds a massive criminal empire in Miami, Florida in the 1980s. As the main character and anti-hero of the 1983 film Scarface, audiences watch his descent into paranoia and madness as a result of his growing list of enemies. Although he dies at the end of the 1983 film, the game version of Tony survives and goes about reclaiming his criminal empire.
- Alejandro Sosa: Alejandro Sosa is the former business partner of Tony Montana who is now his enemy. He sends a squad of enforcers to Tony’s mansion to assassinate him but Tony survives. The plot of the game involves Tony swaering revenge against Sosa, making him the primary antagonist.
- George Sheffield: George Sheffield is Tony’s reluctant lawyer. He only agrees to become Tony’s attorney again after demanding a substantially increased fee for his services.
- Gaspar Gomez: Gaspar is a fellow crime boss working together with Alejandro Sosa toward annexing Tony’s empire. Before Tony can take down Sosa, he needs to reclaim the territory that Gaspar claimed during his absence and hiding.

Easy Unlock of the Carbine Assault Rifle
Players will normally not be able to use the Carbine Assault Rifle until after unlocking the Fifth Reputation Upgrade, but this exploit grants early access to the weapon. To get the Carbine Assault Rifle early, first enter a bank or any other building where Tony can start shooting. Begin creating a disturbance and wait for the police to arrive. Take out a police officer using the assault rifle and keep it in your inventory. Allow the police to kill Tony and when you respawn the assault rifle will still be in your inventory.
