Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 Cheats & Cheat Codes

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 is a major expansion pack for the very first Grand Theft Auto game. It came out in 1999, two years after the base game. As the name suggests, it is indeed set in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. This makes it and its prequel, London 1961, the only two GTA installments to be set in a real-world location.

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 Premise

In Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, you assume the role of a low level street criminal. This minor hoodlum must then climb the ranks of London’s criminal underbelly to become a major player on the organized crime scene. Like the original GTA, London 1969 also features a top-down perspective and a focus on arcade-style progression, with a target score to be reached in each level. Later GTA games have eschewed this style in favor of a third-person perspective and a greater focus on open-world design.

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 Main Characters

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 offers you a choice of eight playable characters, who each take inspiration from a different aspect of popular British culture from the era. Each of these characters follows the same narrative through the streets of London, therefore their differences are mostly aesthetic in nature. Once you’ve chosen a protagonist, here are some of the main characters you’ll encounter in a playthrough of GTA: London 1969.

  • Maurice Caine: This playable character takes inspiration from prominent actor Michael Caine, known for his appearances in crime films like The Italian Job in 1969.
  • Mick Casey: This optional protagonist is a brawny street thug, much more physically imposing than the other options.
  • Johnny Hawthorn: The third playable character option takes inspiration from the rocker subculture prominent in England at the time, thus bearing a resemblance to rock icons like Elvis and Johnny Cash.
  • Winston Henry: This protagonist’s trilby and sunglasses mark him as a likely homage to the rudeboy subculture prominent in the 1960s and 70s.
  • Charles Jones: This long-haired protagonist takes influences from hippie stereotypes, while bearing a resemblance to more sinister figures like infamous cult leader Charles Manson.
  • Rodney Morash: This protagonist is one of the more prominent playable characters who appears on most of the promotional material for the game. He resembles prominent British musical influences like the Beatles and the Who.
  • Sid Vacant: This rough and rowdy protagonist takes obvious inspiration from Sid Vicious, the bassist for English punk rock band the Sex Pistols.
  • Wolfie Vilans: This stylish player character takes inspiration from a prominent British archetype of well-dressed characters who make a living through crime and other shady dealings.
  • Harold Cartwright: This imposing crime lord claims to have no fear. He also gives you your first jobs in the London criminal underworld.
  • Jack Parkinson: This ambitious rising star of the London crime scene works with the player character as they rise to the level of threatening the intimidating Crisp twins.
  • Albert Crisp: This paranoid crime lord is one half of the infamous Crisp twins, major players in London’s criminal underworld and main antagonists in the game. He serves as the brains of the pair.
  • Archie Crisp: Albert’s silent twin brother, in contrast to his twin, serves as the muscle in their joint operation.
  • Pretty Charlie: This associate of Harold Cartwright assists you with missions on the crime lord’s behalf.
  • The Crisps’ Contact: This enigmatic figure serves as a contact between the sinister Crisp twins and the protagonist, offering the latter missions and odd jobs on the former’s behalf.
