Maxwell’s adventures are coming to an end. One of the more clever and imaginative puzzle games has is over. Warner Bros. has cancelled 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts: Fighting Words . While the company’s CEO, Jeremiah Slaczka, initially told Polygon that they weren’t sure what plans were, we’ve since learned that 5th Cell will still exist as a company, but 45 staff members have been fired. The total number of employees was not revealed.
Action has been quite swift since the announcement. The Scribblenauts: Fighting Words website, which was accepting applications for the iOS beta of the game, has been shut down. The official 5th Cell website remains online.
This is quite a shame. Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts were amazing games, and it’s always fun to fire up Scribblenauts Unlimited on the PC. Not to mention, Scribblenauts Unmasked is a lot more fun now that superhero movies are the new hotness. We’ll miss you, 5th Cell!
