SEGA Teaser Hints at New Yakuza Title

SEGA Teaser Hints at New Yakuza Title

After a brief and seemingly innocent poll to judge the popularity of a few characters from their Yakuza franchise, developer SEGA has released a statement hinting at a “surprise announcement” that will occur during their August 18 th Shinjuku, Tokyo event.  Granted, this is just an announcement of an announcement (which are far too common these days), but we’re also looking at the possible unveiling of Yakuza 6 , which makes an otherwise inconsequential fan survey considerably more memorable.

Yakuza creator Toshiro Nagoshi previously confirmed that Yakuza 5 would end the series’ role in the current-gen market, which strongly points to the probable Yakuza 6 making a PlayStation 4 debut. In addition, the series’ timeline supports an August announcement, as nearly all Yakuza titles have been revealed in late summer.

Besides just confirming that Yakuza 5 would end the series’ role in the current-gen market, Nagoshi also confirmed earlier in the year that he hopes he will be able to show “something” ( Game Nyarth via Gematsu ) sometime in 2013.
