Serendipity: The Game Due out Soon!*

None

Serendipity – definition: Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers or creates something unexpectedly splendid from seemingly disparate elements. You don’t have to be an accident waiting to happen to enjoy Serendipity – The Game, but it wouldn’t hurt.

Serendipity – The Game puts you in control of your own mysterious destiny as you randomly throw a bunch of ingredients into a witch’s brew. For instance, you can throw a bunch of musical notes on a piece of sheet music and you might just stumble onto something that sounds great. You don’t have to know anything about the disciplines included in this game, in fact the less you know the better, since it’s all about creating surprises. A lot of times things turn out awful, but when you get the right combination, it seems magical.

On a blank musical staff, you can place a bunch of musical notes all over the page in different combinations and configurations. Mix notes from a particular scale with various rhythm combinations and you might just come up with the next number-one hit, just like Ashlee Simpson did. And speaking of numbers, you don’t have to be a genius to create your own quantum physics formula. Simple add numbers and other math icons to our equation templates and see if you can’t set the world on fire. Other modes in Serendipity – The Game include creating your own bio-chemical mutation, developing your own sitcom by selecting various writers and C-list actors, and even a chance to create the Subway sandwich of your dreams from millions of ingredients such as truffles, gunpowder, fur, lard, bat milk, Popeye cigarettes, and whiskey. There’s even a mini-game where you get to force-feed Jared with your own sandwich creation and turn him back into the fat mess he once was.

“Let’s face it,” says game developer Stan Dupright, “Everyone likes to experiment with things. As a kid I used to take lawnmowers and watches apart to see what makes them tick. One time I took apart my grandfather, but I’d rather not talk about that. Still, we are all fascinated by things in our world, and this game gives you a chance to play around with these things in a totally safe, virtual environment. It’s a lot of fun. In the bio-chemical mode I once crossed Ron Jeremy with a unicorn and a pig. I couldn’t tell the difference. Of course some of this stuff can be a little dangerous. Some nerd stole one of the formulas I created, and he experimented with it in his lab. He claims he came up with a cure for skepticism, but nobody believed him.”

Serendipity – The Game was created by – you guessed it – accident. It started life as a platform game called Pipply the Penguin, but the main character proved so cute that the developers couldn’t stand it, and killed him. Left with nothing to show for a year’s work but a hard drive filled with codes, the developers mixed them up at random and Serendipity – The Game was born. As developer Dupright says, “This game is just like life, you keep screwing around with stuff long enough and eventually you’ll come up with something.”
