Shaolin Monks Sequel Planned but Cancelled

Shaolin Monks Sequel Planned but Cancelled

None

According to a recently held interview between Game Informer and Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon, Shaolin Monks wasn’t the only cooperative MK game that was being planned. Boon stated “When they finished [Shaolin Monks], the guys at Paradox were gonna do another one called Fire & Ice. It was gonna be a co-operative Scorpion and Sub-Zero game,”

Besides the fact that Shaolin Monks was actually a good game, it would have been interesting to have seen this sequel, if only to find out how they would have gotten these two adversaries to work as a team. Apparently, we came close to being able to, with Boon continuing “They actually started the early stages of that game, but they couldn’t do it in time and under budget, so the project was canceled and kind of went away.” While this is only speculation, perhaps if fan interest in the series is rekindled by the upcoming 2011 release of Mortal Kombat, maybe it would help convince Warner Bros. and Boon to give the canceled Fire & Ice another shot.
