Skyrim Version 1.4 Ready, If You’re Willing

Skyrim Version 1.4 Ready, If You’re Willing

None

Last week, Bethesda promised to place a new patch into the hands of Skyrim players in the very near future. Well, that future is now, but only if you want it to be.

As promised, the developer has begun rolling out the beta version of their 1.4 update on Steam. Unlike other patches, players will actually have to opt into the beta. This will update their system, but may put any saved games/files at risk. After all, Bethesda isn’t exactly known as the developer who gets it right the first time.

If you’re interested in updating, the process is relatively straightforward; simply navigate to the “Settings” section, find the “Account” tab and click “change” on Beta Participation. Once you’ve done this, a dropdown menu should appear that gives you the option to select “Skyrim Beta.” Then you simply have to restart Steam and everything should be kosher.

Releasing beta patches is a brilliant maneuver on Bethesda’s part. It allows them to publicly test major updates before pushing them to self-contained systems like Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. However, I think we can all agree that it would be nice if Bethesda tried to get it right the first time.

I know it’s not realistic, but we can dream, right?
