Super Meat Boy is a platformer that demands intense precision and split-second reactions. More the point, it requires a control method that allows for intuitive and immediate input, which is why the PC version, while allowing for the use of a keyboard, firmly asserts the value of a controller on start-up, going so far as to deride the player for considering anything other than a gamepad. This game type isn’t a particularly smooth fit for the touchscreen input upon which most smartphones depend, lacking the tactile sensation that a controller provides, the definite knowledge that you’re hitting the button you mean to hit at any given time. And yet, Team Meat is trying. They don’t promise a miracle, though: “If we end up doing it it won’t be anything like the version people are familiar with, but something new that embodies the SMB spirit.”
