The holiday shopping season has gotten off to a solid start for gaming companies. In addition to Nintendo’s amazing 1.5 million units sold of Wii and DS/DSi, Sony and Microsoft are also reporting strong Black Friday weekend results. Sony sold 440,000 PS3s over the weekend and saw a sharp increase in PSP sales as well. Microsoft, though not reporting solid numbers, says this past week has seen their largest sales of the year – doubling sales from the previous week. For harder, third-party numbers, we’ll have to wait till NPD releases their results. However, expect video games and systems to be the top gift given this month by looks of things. |
