Kinect Moves Fast in Japan

Kinect Moves Fast in Japan

None

Media Create, the company that tracks Japanese game sales, has reported that Microsoft was able to sell 26,000 Kinect units in Japan during its launch week. This relatively modest number includes packaged and stand alone Kinect units.

In contrast, Media Create reported that Kinect sold approximately half the number of units Sony Move did during its debut, although some of that discrepancy could be attributed to the difference in price. In Japan, the Move costs approximately as much as a new game (5100 yen – 60 USD) while the Kinect costs nearly three times that amount (14,800 yen – 176 USD).

Despite the difference in sales when compared to the PlayStation Move, the launch of the Kinect did increase sales of the Xbox 360 in Japan by 229 percent, creating an increase of 4,934 Xbox 360s sold.
