Sony Announces LittleBigPlanet Karting

None

On a recent post on the U.S. PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that their much-loved LittleBigPlanet IP will be expanding into the world of kart racing. Media Molecule, the guys who brought you LBP and LBP2, are teaming up with United Front Games, the guys behind ModNation Racers, to create LittleBigPlanet Karting, a user-driven game experience that revolves around kart racing.

Like any other kart racer, your job will be to hit boosts and use items to make it to the finish line first. Unlike other kart racers, this game will have an LBP twist. Users will be able to make their own tracks, cars, and sackboy racers. In addition, users will be able to make entirely new game types. The trailer shows both traditional kart racing and Mario Kart-style battle modes. However, it also shows what appears to be a kart racing boss battle, a 2D kart racing platformer, a top-down NES style track, and more.

This is what Siobhan Reddy, Studio director for Media Molecule, had to say about the project:

We’ve all seen that UFG has a wealth of racing experience and they’re also intimately familiar with LBP’s cornerstones of “Play, Create, Share.” With LBP’s powerful and diverse toolset in their capable hands, LittleBigPlanet Karting is sure to be an adventure that both LBP fans and kart-racing fans alike will enjoy! We are eager to see what you think of this union and especially excited to see what happens now that you can create in a 3D environment — it’s the start of a whole new LBP world!

We will bring you more information on LittleBigPlanet Karting as it becomes available.
