Sony London, San Diego See Big Layoffs

Sony London, San Diego See Big Layoffs

It looks like Sony has been going on a bit of a downsizing spree, unfortunately. Earlier today we learned that the team over at Sony London has been reduced rather significantly following the completion of its work on PlayStation VR Worlds . Sony is framing this as a “restructuring,” so hopefully that means that many of these former Sony London devs will end up working on different projects.

The same can’t be said for those who lost their jobs at SIE San Diego, though. Here’s Sony’s official spin on the changes being made: “The team working on MLB The Show have not been affected. We continually evaluate teams and programs at SIE Worldwide Studios to ensure that we have the proper resources in place to deliver innovative products within a competitive landscape. As projects are completed, it is natural to review and restructuctre teams around current and future needs. We wish our departing team members success as they pursue new opportunities and we have nothing but heart-felt thanks for their contributions to PlayStation.”

It’s a sad day for many creative people in London and San Diego, but we wish them all of the best. Hopefully they have many lucrative and fulfilling projects in their futures!
