Sony Plans to Conquer the Markets Through Constant Improvements

The PlayStation 4 is in it for the long haul, and one that will see Sony become victorious in what Fergal Gara of Sony UK calls “a marathon.”

Speaking with Eurogamer, he says: “This format war, if you want to call it that, is a marathon, not a sprint. We’re coming out of the blocks in a strong position, but we’re conscious that is no-where close to job done, and we have to continually improve the proposition, proving what PS4 represents.”

The PS4 will not run at the same disadvantage its predecessor did, as the PlayStation 3 launched well after the Xbox 360. Gara addresses overcoming these types of obstacles in the past by saying, “We’ve got a bit of history of doing that. To have a 16 month disadvantage and actually get any market share in the current generation, which is a very connected generation where friends get friends, took a lot of hard graft.”

The PlayStation 4 will launch just days before the Xbox One, this time beating its competitor to the market.

Although closing the gap between releases will no doubt help balance the scales, Gara believes that Sony’s ability to evolve the PS4 over time is what’s going to win the race. “PS4 is a platform that can and will evolve. It will be great on day one but it will be far better in year two and year three as expectations rise and ideas are generated and these new tools are executed. That’s the way to win.” Gara says.
