Sony Pulls PSP Games For Fear Of Hacking

None

Two PSP titles have been pulled from the PlayStation Network today. Hot Shots Tennis and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge are no longer available for download from the PlayStation Store. Supposedly, exploits in both titles can be used to run unsigned code. This would allow users to hack the PS Vita, for example, using its PSP emulation to run homebrew programs. Homebrew programs, of course, lead to disc backups, which many publishers believe will eventually lead to piracy.

The hack in question would only allow users to access the system’s PSP emulation capabilities, and so it would not allow homebrew programs to take advantage of the PS Vita’s full processing power. However, it could provide a doorway into eventually creating a full backup system. Anyone who currently has these titles is still able to use the exploit, so removing them from the PlayStation store is a temporary fix at best.
