Rumor: PlayStation Vita’s Homebrew Hack

Rumor: PlayStation Vita’s Homebrew Hack

A hacker has allegedly discovered an exploit in the PlayStation Vita, which will allow him to create an application that makes homebrew apps compatible with the device.

Yifan Lu, who hacked into Amazon’s Kindle devices, has already released a few lines of code for the project and is encouraging other developers to aid his development of the program.

Lu’s GitHub page says the new loader is “based heavily” off an application that ran homebrew applications on the PSP, Half Byte Loader.

The possibility of piracy being a possibility on the device via the homebrew application remains to be seen. However, when questioned by an indie Vita developer if the exploit could leave an “open door” to piracy, Lu stated: “I apologize, but what can I do about what others may possibly do in the future?”
