Sony Replacing Ashraf’s PSP; You Can Help Too

Sony Replacing Ashraf’s PSP; You Can Help Too

None

You may have seen this video making the rounds on the internet: A young man sits on the sidewalk against a wall, small pool of blood beside him. As people pass by, a few come over and help him to his feet, dust him off and, while they have him surrounded, calmly rifle through this backpack and remove his belongings. They walk off with some of his things, throwing any “waste” to the ground as they go.

The injured party is named Ashraf Haziq. From Malaysia, Ashraf is studying abroad in Britain and was caught in the London riots, then robbed while he was utterly helpless to resist. Among items taken from him, besides his bike and phone, was a PlayStation Portable. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe marketing director Alan Duncan, on a post on a tumblr set up to gather donations for Haziq and decide how to help him, said that Sony would “like to give Ashraf a new PSP and games.” NAMCO Bandai has offered to send a package of games to him, to help replace those lost.

It’s a gracious move on the parts of both companies, but the question remains: what can you, the gaming public, do? The aforementioned tumblr can be found here , and is still taking votes on how to help him. While you’re over there, it couldn’t hurt to donate to the cause, either.
