Sony Says It’s the Front-Runner, Looks to the Future

It’s one thing to speculate who exactly would come out on top in the early rounds of the next-gen console war. However, with several months under our belt, many have placed the crown firmly atop the head of the PS4 in the early goings. Now, Sony themselves are declaring victory and are already looking to the road ahead.

According to marketing exec John Koller, the success of the PS4 was ordained by you, the fans, as he outlines in a recent interview, “People gave us the upper hand early and we want to continue to reward them with all the different content and engagement that we have…We are viewed the most authentic brand, so we have a leg up there but we’ve got a lot of work to do to make sure that when we’re going into work with a publisher or when we’re going into work with our own first-party team…”

Personally, I was hesitant to mark a definitive “W” in the win column for either competitor. However, one showing at CES changed all that. The announcement of PlayStation Now was a game changer in my mind, and blew the doors off this fight. Koller calls the move a “…significant engagement so far. A lot of people are interested. It’s been a great platform so far just in terms of interest. The things that we’re trying to work through are: business modeling, pricing, release windows; all those things still need to be turned through.”

We’ll bring you more on the back and forth fight between Sony and Microsoft, as they continue to slug it out for console superiority.
