Sony to Continue Using Physical Media

None

Apparently, the rumors of a digital download future coming soon have been greatly exaggerated. Sony, a company on the cutting edge of digital downloads, having had several new games made available day one on PSN and launching the first download only system the PSPgo, believes that the need for physical media will extend for at least the next decade, perhaps beyond.

Speaking with MCV, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai states “We do business in parts of the world where network infrastructure isn’t as robust as one would hope.” He continues “There’s always going to be requirement for a business of our size and scope to have a physical medium.” He finished by saying “To think everything will be downloaded in two years, three years or even ten years from now is taking it a little bit to the extreme.” This is certainly encouraging news to everyone who still wants to collect and own physical copies of their games.
