Sony Wants You To PLAY

None

No longer satisfied with sitting back and letting Microsoft get all the big downloadable press with its Summer of Arcade, Sony is instituting its own downloadable initiative called PLAY. Announced on the PlayStation Blog, this event consists of four highly-anticipated downloadable titles, all of which are priced at $14.99:

  • Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition – Kicking off PLAY, this title will be available for pre-order until August 18 and will see release on August 23. Those who purchase it during the promotion will be able to get Gill, the game’s final boss, as a playable character through DLC instead of beating the game with all characters. Pre-orders will also receive a Capcom-produced theme.

  • The Baconing – Coming out August 30, available for pre-order through August 25, this third entry in the Deathspank series will include the Roesha co-op character if purchased during PLAY. Pre-order customers will also receive a static theme.

  • BloodRayne: Betrayal – This stylish 2D action game will be available for preorder through September 1, the game itself releasing on September 6. If purchased during PLAY, gamers will receive a virtual item for their PlayStation Home avatar and a dynamic theme. Pre-orders will also receive a static theme.

  • Renegade Ops – Pre-orders on this top-down driving, sandbox shooter run through September 8. The game will be out on September 13. If purchased during PLAY, it includes two new vehicles and a selection of special weapons. All pre-orders receive… You guessed it: A static theme.

Finally, gamers who purchase all four titles will receive PAYDAY: The Heist as a bonus when it releases. This co-operative shooter drew tremendous attention at E3 and would normally run players $19.99. Furthermore, if one is a PlayStation Plus subscriber, all PLAY titles will be 20% off. Pre-orders open on Tuesday, August 9.
