Sorry, BioWare Buddies, EA Doesn’t Do Remasters

The beloved original Mass Effect trilogy is a gaming classic that’s sure to stand the test of time. Perhaps it could do so even better if we could get our hands on a shiny remastered version with all the latest graphical bells and whistles, eh? The first game, especially, looks rather dated at this point, and fans have been wondering if a remastered trilogy is possible. They even got a glimmer of hope when EA veep Patrick Soderlund suggested that the company was “actively looking at” remasters in response to a question about Mass Effect at Gamescom.

Perhaps Mr. Soderlund spoke too soon, because his fellow EA corporate vice-president Peter Moore put the kibosh on any remaster hopes during an interview with IGN Tuesday. He described EA as a forward-looking company that is focused on “delivering new IP and new experiences.”  The company simply doesn’t have teams “lying around” twiddling their thumbs and itching to remaster things, though I’ll note that many companies outsource their remasters anyway.

Sorry, BioWare buddies. Commander Shepard won’t be recommending her favorite remaster in the Citadel anytime soon. You’ll just have to be satisfied with the brand-new Mass Effect Andromeda next year… unless it gets delayed to 2018.
